My bestfriend is a huge fan of LUSH and their Ocean Salt Cleanser, a face and body scrub containing vodka, coconut, lime, and avocado. I stopped in to pick up some bath bombs and bubbles and of course was distracted by ten other things. I ended up walking away with this scrub and I have to say, I’m not disappointed!
Benefits: “The minerals in sea salt soften as it scrubs away dirt, dead skin and blockages for a bright, fresh face. We mix in fresh avocado and coconut to hydrate thirsty skin, leaving it balanced and soft. The cleansing effects of lime and vodka are ideal for blocked pores, blackheads or blemishes and leave skin visibly brightened.” (LUSH website)
Texture: The battle with face and body scrubs is that they could be too ‘harsh’ if you have sensitive skin, which I do. I try to use lotions that don’t have a lot of fragrance and gentle cleansers on my face. When I first opened up the container there was a thick layer of blue salt on the top and I had to mix it into the rest with my finger. At first I thought that was the texture of the whole product but it turns out to just be a small part. Had that been the case, it would have been far to harsh for my skin. However, the texture overall is pretty gentle but rough enough to get the job done and leave our skin feeling smooth. I was thoroughly impressed.
Smell: The scrub does contain vodka (which I’m not a huge fan of) so I was worried that would overpower everything. But it also has lime, coconut and avocado in it. The lime and coconut gives it a nice fresh scent and all I could really smell was the subtle lime (although I’m a sucker for anything coconut). It’s not heavy with perfume or strong scents like I feel a lot of LUSH products can be, so that is a positive in my eyes.
Price: There are two sizes for this bad boy – the smaller 120g container will run you $21.95 and the larger 250g costs $35.95. Overall, I think all LUSH products are a little pricy for the size that you get but people argue that because of the organic benefits, self-preserving ingredients, ethical purchases, fresh ingredients, handmade products, etc. it is worth the higher price point. I’m new to using LUSH products but I do feel this is a bit expensive for what you get. With that being said, because you don’t need to use very much I foresee this lasting for quite a while.#Bonus
Packaging: Typical LUSH packaging – black container that is made from 100% post-consumer recycled process. The positive side is that they have a ‘5 Pot Program’ – bring back 5 empty pots to your local LUSH store and they’ll give you a free face mask. If you’re an avid LUSH visitor, this could pay off in the long run.
Verdict: I’ve tried a few other face and body scrubs from similar companies like Bath and Body Works and The Body Shop and this one is probably the best out of the three for texture, smell, and overall results. If you don’t mind paying a bit more for a pretty basic, everyday product I highly recommend this.
